HID Fully Electric Cutter Suction Dredger Powers Copper-Cobalt Recovery Project in DRC
HID Shipyard proudly announces the successful deployment of its fully electric Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) in the Kamirombe tailings pond copper-cobalt resource recovery project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This marks a significant milestone in green dredging technology applied to resource reclamation in Africa’s mining sector.
The all-electric CSD, engineered and manufactured by HID Shipyard, is designed for high-efficiency and eco-friendly operation, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing recovery yield. In the Kamirombe project, the dredger plays a critical role in extracting valuable copper and cobalt residues from legacy tailings, supporting sustainable resource utilization in one of the world’s richest mineral regions.
"Thanks to HID’s electric dredger, our project efficiency has greatly improved," said the project manager. "The dredger operates steadily with low noise and zero on-site emissions, making it ideal for long-term recovery work in sensitive environments."
Key features of the HID electric CSD include:
Emission-free operation powered entirely by electricity
High automation with remote monitoring and control systems
Low operational cost with reduced energy consumption and maintenance needs
Durable structure suited for continuous operation in tailings environments
HID Shipyard continues to lead the way in sustainable dredging solutions, offering tailored equipment to support resource recovery, environmental remediation, and waterway restoration projects across the globe.
